If you like seafood, there is a Texas restaurant that deserves a high place on your to-do list. Gaido Seafood Restaurant in Galveston has been a local institution since 1911, serving only the freshest catch. From giant crab cakes to Gulf oysters harvested straight from Galveston Bay, this long-established restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience.

Open since 1911 – the same year air conditioning became commonplace – Gaido’s Seafood Restaurant in Galveston is the oldest seafood restaurant on the island.

The signature restaurant serves only the freshest catch, with most menu items sourced straight from the Gulf waters just steps away.

The restaurant is located directly along the seawall, providing the most incredible views while you eat.

Although it is a fine dining establishment, you will only feel relaxed watching the waves crash on the shore.

Inside, white tablecloths and beautiful artwork are juxtaposed with lanterns and wood paneling that have a decidedly nautical feel.

Some high end restaurants are stuffy and stuck up, but Gaido is not one of them. Between the friendly service and the laid-back (but still immensely stylish) atmosphere, you might as well dine in your own kitchen.

Now let’s move on to the most important: food.

How about starting with some of their famous giant crab cakes? Other crowd favorite appetizers include spinach crab dip, calamari and a shellfish tower with oysters, Gulf shrimp, salad and crab claws and traditional sauces.

Speaking of oysters, you could easily make them a meal on their own.

Harvested directly from Galveston Bay, the oysters here are of impeccable quality. From raw on the half shell to charcoal grilled to fried, there are so many different ways to enjoy them. Can’t make up your mind? Get a combo tray and try a bit of everything!

The main menu changes often depending on the season, but it always includes several daily catches with a variety of delicious toppings to choose from.

If you don’t like seafood, plenty of beef, chicken and pork dishes are also available, as well as salads, soups and pasta dishes. There is also an extensive drinks list with beer, wine, craft cocktails and martinis!

Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Saturday.
