Phong Lan reopened its dining room on June 1 after a long take-out stint only during the pandemic.

Barrel House arrives in downtown Cedar Rapids

Less than two months after announcing a new location for Marion, Barrel House announced plans for a location in downtown Cedar Rapids, which will open in October.

“The prominent corner of First Avenue East and Second Street SE will be relaunched with a touch of traditional tavern, specialty cocktails and an exceptional selection of local beers on tap,” GLD Commercial Real Estate said in a press release.

The new location will occupy the 3,500 square foot space formerly occupied by La Cantina Bar & Grill.

Barrel House founder Jimmy Holt said he recognizes the effect of COVID-19 on downtown Cedar Rapids and the lack of dining options.

“We saw an opportunity to be at the forefront of the recovery and hope more will follow,” said Holt.

The Marion store will open this summer. Barrel House has locations in Davenport, Dubuque and Moline, Illinois.
