Inside Leicester’s new seafood restaurant, Sapphire, which has opened in the former Swan and Rushes pub

A well-known downtown pub has been transformed into a new seafood restaurant.

Sapphire Kitchen and Bar opened in the former Swan and Rushes on Infirmary Square. The building, which last opened as a pub around two years ago, is now under new ownership and has undergone a £200,000 refurbishment.

The restaurant, which is described as ‘Leicester’s only Cajun seafood restaurant‘, was started by a husband and wife team, who have been in the hospitality industry for 10 years. It aims to offer a range of “Instagram delights” like lobster tail, different varieties of crab and boiled king prawns in a Cajun-style seafood sauce, with corn on the cob and a choice of spicy rice or fries.

“It’s very messy. We provide bibs and gloves and encourage people to eat with their hands!” owner Vheshman Seelan told LeicestershireLive. Diners aren’t limited to seafood and can also choose from a range of burgers, including a classic buttermilk fried chicken burger, a plant-based ‘mighty meatless’ burger and a spicy ‘bang’ shrimp roll. bong”.

Chicken wings, with a variety of flavors ranging from “crazy Courvoisier barbecue” to spicy Korean fries, are also on the menu. Desserts include Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate Cake, and Biscoff Cheesecake.

A range of beers, ciders, wines and spirits are available, as well as cocktails – including Pornstar Martini, Old Fashioned and Mojito, and mocktails – such as Virgin Mojito, Virgin Pina Colada and Rose Lychee Cooler.

“We seek to provide a memorable dining experience in Leicester without breaking the bank. We have a bar which splits the venue in two, so we are well equipped to take large bookings and rent out part or all of the space for parties. private,” Vheshman added.

As for the look of the venue, it’s dark and bold, which Vheshman says makes it suitable for a dining experience or an evening drink. Hours of operation are currently Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight. However, there are plans to extend the opening hours in the summer.
