One-eyed, modern seafood restaurant, has closed; here’s what Hyatt wants to replace it | Where NOLA eats

One-eyed, the seafood restaurant that was once a downtown New Orleans hotspot, is permanently closed, ending nearly 10 years.

The restaurant at the downtown Hyatt Regency hotel has been closed since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. But now its 10-year lease is expiring and Octavio Mantilla, partner of its management company BRG Hospitality, has confirmed that he won’t come back.

“We didn’t feel comfortable renewing the lease at this time,” Mantilla said. “At the moment, we prefer to focus on our other restaurants and on the other projects that we have to come. “

One of them is a third location for Pizza Domenica, this time in Lakeview. This restaurant, located at 117 W. Harrison Ave., is now slated to open in January.

The Hyatt Regency has already started the process of finding a new restaurant for the space, hotel general manager Michael Smith said.

“We want something that will make a difference and get people here,” he said. “We want someone who is going to do something different and stand out.”

The 1,200-room Hyatt Regency operates a host of its own dining concepts, including its 8 Block Kitchen & Bar, Vitascope Hall, Pizza Consegna and many more. So Smith said the hotel is looking for a chef and a concept that can bring something fresh and different.

The downstairs restaurant at 601 Loyola Ave. is a large dining space that seats over 200 people and an airstrip-sized bar that runs almost the entire length of the dining room. Smith said he expects a new restaurant to open here in 2022.

Borgne opened in 2012, just as the downtown food scene was just starting to intensify. At the time, there were few other dining options in this neighborhood. It has become a destination, especially around games and shows in neighboring venues, and for its affordable lunch specials and happy hour of tapas.

It was developed by what was then called Besh Restaurant Group and the kitchen was run by Chef Brian Landry, who then co-founded his own group, QED Hospitality, which manages Jack Rose and other restaurant concepts at the Pontchartrain hotel.
