Plans revealed for new seafood restaurant in affluent Glasgow suburb of Bearsden

A DOCTOR has revealed plans to open a new seafood and takeaway restaurant in the Glasgow suburb of Bearsden.

Dr Usman Qureshi will launch The Scallop’s Tale at Bearsden Cross in April after an investment of over £350,000. It is expected to employ 14 full-time and part-time staff.

With 28 seats over two floors, the restaurant will offer a “full” menu of local seafood dishes, including The Scallops High Tea for Two. Vegetarian and vegan dishes will also be featured.

The restaurant and takeaway menus were created by executive chef Stephen Pohler, who previously worked at the Lisini Dalziel Park Hotel in Motherwell, as well as the Hilton Garden Inn, Crowne Plaza and Radisson Red, Glasgow.

Dr Qureshi, who lives in Bearsden with his family, said: ‘I have always loved seafood, which stems from tasting food in Scotland and abroad in places like Turkey, Thailand and Malaysia. I’ve always dreamed of having my own seafood restaurant and can’t wait to open one in Bearsden. It’s a fantastic community with a solid restaurant and take-out offering, but there’s nothing quite like Scallop’s Tale.

“We wanted to create a fine restaurant and take-out built on a reputation for fresh, local seafood where there is no distinction of quality, whether served in, delivered or take-out. We will offer an amazing range of seafood dishes, as well as alternative options, all in a fine dining environment that elevates the experience above others offering this type of cuisine.

“We designed the entire offering, from the décor to Stephen’s magnificent menu, to encourage diners – from couples and groups, to families and large parties – to return again and again. We want the people of Bearsden to love us as their favorite local, and for diners in Glasgow and beyond to see us as their special treat.
