Cudahy’s diverse dining scene continues to grow with the debut of La Crema, 3431 E. Plankinton Ave. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and is housed in a stately Queen Anne-style building that has been updated inside and out from the space it once housed. the Mexican restaurant Samano, which had been in business for over 50 years.

A visit to La Crema during the opening weekend revealed that the new restaurant was packed with hungry guests eager to experience the new establishment. Although there were about a dozen parties ahead of us, the wait was quick and we were seated in the elegant but comfortable main dining room. Pops of greenery and artistic hand-painted signage accent the freshly painted walls and updated furnishings. Many windows let in plenty of natural light.

Drinks include Colombian coffee from Red Rock Roasters, cappuccino, iced coffee, hot Rishi tea or unsweetened Fuze iced tea, fruit juices, lemonade, Coca cola products and four kinds of fruit smoothies . There are no alcoholic beverages available yet, but our server said he will likely add them in the coming months.

Cookies and gravy

Breakfast favorites include Biscuits & Gravy ($10.50) served with two eggs made your way, plus breakfast potatoes; the Granola Bowl ($9), featuring fresh berries, bananas and honeydew melon with vanilla Greek yogurt, served with a muffin; and Chilaquiles ($13), corn chips topped with homemade salsa verde, pico de gallo, queso fresco and sour cream, served with two eggs and black beans on the side. My friend enjoyed her avocado toast ($11), a whole grain bread topped with smashed avocado brightened with lemon and olive oil. The two eggs on the side were prepared exactly as she ordered them – soft scrambled, a more careful cooking method that results in fluffier eggs.

Four different skillet options are served over breakfast potatoes, with two eggs made your way. They come with a choice of toast or pancakes. My mom had the Classic ($11.50), which was ham, green pepper and onions, with jack and cheddar. There was a good balance of ingredients and one didn’t overpower the other. Homemade buttermilk pancakes melt in your mouth and are available in plain, banana, pecan, blueberry, chocolate chip, or strawberry banana (prices vary for single and short pancakes). Omelettes, pancakes, and French toast complete the breakfast options, available all day.

what is there to eat

For lunch, there are several burger choices, as well as sandwiches such as Monte Cristo, Turkey Wrap, BBQ Chicken Tender Wrap (all $11 each) or the satisfying one I had – the Veggie Melt ($10), with tomato, onions, mushrooms and green pepper, topped with Swiss cheese on grilled sourdough. I enjoyed the tender and crunchy vegetables. All sandwiches and burgers are served with a choice of fries, mesclun or soup of the day. Lighter fare offers chicken, summer, or chopped Caesar salads ($12-14).

To cook The magazine reported last June that breakfast’s popularity is growing throughout the day, with 79% of Americans saying they’ve eaten breakfast foods outside of the traditional breakfast since the pandemic began. La Crema is a nice addition to the number of breakfast/lunch restaurants in the Milwaukee area reflecting this trend.

Local food artists Jordana and Garrett VanBergen are finalizing plans to buy the longtime home of children’s boutique Lad & Lassie, which closed in February 2020, and convert it into a restaurant and cafe. EvaDean.

Jordana told The Record that EvaDean hopes to open in mid-2023 and will feature a bakery on the right half of the site and a breakfast-lunch-brunch restaurant on the other side.

“It’s a bit scary. This building needs a lot of love,” she said. “It’s a very big project, but we are very excited.”

Although the sale of the building has not yet been completed, a purchase agreement is in the works, according to the VanBergens and a representative of Connor Max LLC, the owner of the property.

Wilmette Village officials said they have not yet received official documentation for EvaDean’s, but are aware of pending sale and restaurant plans.

While EvaDean’s will be the first company to own a restaurant for the VanBergens, Garrett and Jordana have extensive professional culinary experience.

Garrett VanBergen is the executive chef of Evanston Farma farm-to-tavern restaurant open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.

Jordana VanBergen is a Wilmette native and pastry chef. For 10 years, she has worked at Bennison Bakery in Evanston, which is owned and operated by his father, Jory Downer. Her grandfather, Guy Downer, was a baker who bought Bennison’s in 1967. Her grandmother was also a baker. Her name was EvaDean.

Jordana said the couple were looking for places in the area to open their own restaurant and settled there in downtown Wilmette.

“Downtown Wilmette has gotten really cool,” she said. “A lot more than when I was young. … You drive through downtown Wilmette, it’s bustling. There’s a lot more going on there.

A major draw of the building for the VanBergens was the ability to use part of Veterans Park, a small public space adjoining the building to the east, for outdoor dining.

Although use of the park requires formal approval, the Village of Wilmette would also like the building’s occupant to use part of the park, Braiman said.

Garrett VanBergen will be the restaurant-side chef, while Jordana will run the bakery. Garrett’s specialty, she said, is farm-to-table cuisine with specials that rotate with the season.

The VanBergens will also seek to obtain a liquor license from the village in order to serve alcohol – such as wine and cocktails, such as Bloody Marys – with lunch and brunch.

In downtown Wilmette, EvaDean’s will be the third breakfast location, joining Hotcakes at the corner of Wilmette Avenue and Fuel at the north end of the Metra station on Washington Court. The area also includes other bakeries, such as St. Roger Abbey French Organic Patisserie, Panera Bread, and Lawrence Dean’s, as well as incoming Buck Russell’s Bakery and Sandwich Shop.

Those looking for breakfast or lunch have a new choice in an old building in Cudahy.

La Crema opened in the old Samano building at 3431 E. Plankinton Ave.

Milwaukee residents Gerardo Flores and his sister Claudia Flores began moving the restaurant into the renovated building in November 2021. The siblings hosted a soft opening for La Crema on February 21.

The company name is a Spanish translation of part of the classic French phrase “crème de la crème” which refers to something like the best. Claudia Flores said they used the Spanish version to represent their heritage.

La Crema is open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and serves breakfast and lunch but not dinner. Claudia Flores said dinner orders are often “more complex.”

Eggs Up Grill opened its doors this week in Gastonia.

The South Carolina-based chain opened Monday, January 17 at 2609 S. New Hope Road, in the Food Lion mall at the corner of Redbud Drive and South New Hope Road.

The 4,000 square foot space housed the former Round Bistro, which closed in 2018.

Eggs Up Grill in Gastonia will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., seven days a week. The restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, and lunch.

This is the first Eggs Up Grill for Gaston County and for Keith Moore and his wife Soumitra. For what it’s worth, Keith Moore was having breakfast at the restaurant on Tuesday morning.

“What drew my wife and I to Eggs Up Grill was how family oriented it is. It’s a place where the family can gather and enjoy breakfast classics,” Moore said in a statement released by the company. “The concept of breakfast and lunch, as well as its opening hours, are very convincing. Also, the brand is community-centric and that’s important to us.

Keith Moore and his wife Soumitra and their two children. The family opened Eggs Up Grill on Monday, January 17, 2022, at the intersection of South New Hope Road and Redbud.

Eggs Up Grill menu items include eggs, hash browns, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, French toast, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, and salads. Eggs Up Grill also serves regular coffee and specialty coffee drinks, as well as mimosas.

The restaurant has enough space for 116 people. The restaurant also has a “community room”, separate from the usual dining room, as well as an outdoor patio that can accommodate up to 24 people.

The dining room has both tables, a bar area and benches.

Moore has worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years, holding various leadership positions within IHOP. Moore has managed 22 IHOP restaurants along the East Coast in one form or another – including IHOP on Cox Road, which the franchisee closed in April 2020. A new franchisee now operates the Gastonia IHOP.

The Moores are interested in opening a new restaurant in Gastonia and believe there is great potential for the future.

Eggs Up Grill wait staff at the Gastonia location on South New Hope Road and Redbud. The restaurant opened its doors on Monday, January 17, 2022.

“Eggs Up Grill’s values along with our return to business in Gastonia at this great location make this a great opportunity,” Moore said.

The Moores have lived in Gastonia for 10 years, though they’ve moved back to town from Spartanburg, South Carolina

The Gastonia restaurant will employ a total of 28 people and is actively recruiting. Interested people can apply at eggupgrill.com or visit the restaurant and ask for the duty manager.

[ad_1]

The OP Cafe, one of Los Angeles’ most popular breakfast and lunch destinations, will close permanently this weekend after more than 40 years in business. Located inland from Santa Monica along Ocean Park Boulevard, the bright yellow wood-fronted building featured eggs, breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, pancakes and waffles in the morning. , followed by burgers, sandwiches and more, serving a mostly local crowd. Owner and Santa Monica native Mark Verge, who also owns Golden Bull, Ashland Hill, Art’s Table and Margo’s, said the OP Cafe had not been profitable since the pandemic began.

Verge said it was difficult to keep business going, but that without the support of nearby office workers (Activation Blizzard recently left the large office complex across the street after 10 years) the OP Cafe simply did not have the option of continuing to operate. The OP Cafe has received PPP funds and has done its best to navigate the pandemic, using most of its funds to pay employees, and even serving as a base of operations for a takeout company called Order. for Me, where chef Greg Daniels (who oversees Golden Bull) made things like beef on weck.

OP Cafe has also set up a large covered back patio in an effort to accommodate more outdoor dining. None of these things were enough to tackle the loss of steady business due to office workers and daily traffic entering the area.

Pancakes, bacon and eggs at the OP Cafe.
The OP Café

Verge said about 20 remaining OP Cafe employees will move to its other restaurants, meaning no one will lose their jobs despite the shutdown. Mark and his wife Lani Verge acquired the restaurant in 2006 and have owned it ever since. Originally opened in 1979 as Ocean Park Cafe, the original owner sold the restaurant to his then chef in 1999. This chef then sold it to Mark Verge but didn’t want to give up the full name of Ocean Park Cafe. Hence the nickname OP Cafe, which replaced the beloved neighborhood restaurant. Prior to Ocean Park Cafe, Verge said the space is more of a bar, but has become a favorite with the Santa Monica family over the past few decades.

The OP cafe will serve its last meals on Sunday September 26. It will have regular hours from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., but given the restaurant’s history and its place in the Ocean Park neighborhood, expect long waits during meal times. .

A Naples-based breakfast and lunch catering company with a stunning menu plans to open its first Bradenton-area restaurant by mid-June.

Skillets’ new 180-seat restaurant, located in School House Plaza at 9722 State Road 64 E., across from Carlos E. Haile Middle School, offers four main menu categories: Early Bird, Breakfast, Lunch and children.

The Early Risers menu, available 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday, offers a variety of dishes for $ 8.95, including coffee, tea, or soft drinks.

Among the early bird selections: Skillet omelet with bacon, tomato and Swiss cheese, topped with fresh avocado, served with potatoes, toast and a cup of fresh fruit. Other early risers include the Panegger (pancake and egg dish), the breakfast pan (two eggs your way, potatoes and slice of bacon or sausage, toast, and fruit bowl) and Noreen’s Breakfast (steamed spinach, sliced grilled tomatoes, topped with avocado and chives, served with a poached egg, wheat toast and a bowl of fruit).

The breakfast menu then switches to a variety of pans (yes, many dishes are served in pans), ranging from corned beef mince to vegetarian options. Also on the breakfast menu: multiple ways to have pancakes, omelets, fritattas, egg benedict, waffles, French toast, blintz and pancakes, and more.

The extensive lunch menu has something for everyone, from sandwiches and wraps to tacos, quesadillas, soups and salads. Yes, there is a lot of choice for lunch, but the breakfast menu really looks like the 4th of July breakfast.

Aurora’s Colonial Cafe will close later this month, making way for a new upscale breakfast and lunch restaurant called SYRUP, company officials said on Sunday.

The February 24 closure of the 1961 W. Galena Road restaurant and creamery will leave only two Colonial Cafe locations in the suburbs, in Naperville and St. Charles.

Locations in Elgin and Crystal Lake were closed in 2018, one location in Algonquin was replaced with a SYRUP restaurant in July, and a second location in St. Charles was replaced with a SYRUP in October.

In a message to customers at Aurora Colonial Cafe on Sunday, company officials described SYRUP as “a modern farmhouse that meets luxury, breakfast and lunch.” It will include a full-service café-bar, freshly squeezed orange juice, and local meats and products.

Colonial Cafe employees will have the opportunity to work at SYRUP, the post said.

Customers with Aurora Colonial Cafe coupons or gift cards will be able to redeem them at other locations, officials said.

Emory Village’s all-day breakfast Rise-n-Dine closes after 13 years on North Decatur Road, citing the devastating financial losses resulting from the pandemic and how the health crisis has been handled by the Trump administration.

Rise-n-Dine closed for food service in March at the start of the pandemic and briefly switched to take out. It never reopened. A post on Instagram says the restaurant planned to repay the money it received from the Payroll Protection Program (P3) by October, which was used to pay rent. The PPP loan, which is part of the federal COVID-19 stimulus package for small businesses, is only canceled if a company re-hires its staff.

“… Trump is winning this battle. His intentional incompetence in handling the pandemic is leading to the shutdown of many of us small independent businesses. The big business associations have an army of lawyers and accountants to find loopholes to make the PPP work and force their owners to reduce the rent, ”the message reads in part. “Our landlord worked with us but didn’t give us any break on rent until December. The rent of $ 8,000 per month is too high to pay for takeout and limited outdoor seating.

Rise-n-Dine’s equipment and supplies are already for sale online, with decor items and restaurant books due to go on sale at a later date. The money will be used to repay the PPP loan and a possible restart of Rise-n-Dine.

The friendly, retro-inspired restaurant, serving sweet potato pancakes, Belgian waffles, and egg sandwiches, was a popular spot for Emory University students and faculty to dine over breakfast and lunch. Before the pandemic, Rise-n-Dine was also a perennial list of Eater Atlanta’s essential breakfast restaurants.

Eater asked for comment on the closure.

THANKS THANKS THANKS! Thank you for your support and your presence. But we’re finally throwing in the towel, and officially CLOSING. We hope for Rise Again someday, but Trump wins this battle. His intentional incompetence in handling the pandemic is leading to the shutdown of many of us small independent businesses. The large mixed companies have an army of lawyers and accountants to find loopholes to make the PPP work and force their owners to cut the rent. Our landlord worked with us but didn’t give us any break on rent until December. The rent of $ 8,000 per month is too high to pay for takeout and limited outdoor seating. We have PPP, but that’s only forgiven if you bring ALL your colleagues back. We were now hoping to be back with most of our team and have most of our P3 loans canceled. But by making the wearing of a mask a political issue, the administration has dragged this out. Because they’ve made a choice between being socially responsible and waving the flag of personal freedom, even a vaccine isn’t going to end anytime soon, because half of us are afraid to take it. If you miss us, PLEASE VOTE THEM! And thank you for continuing to wear masks and for thinking of others. Enlightened self-interest is almost dead in this country. We don’t know what we’re going to do, having sold the equipment and supplies we can (go to riseatl.com to see our new and used merchandise again for good). Later we will post decor items and books that we will sell to raise money for Rise-n-Dine 2.0 and pay back the PPP loan money we used for rent. Maybe we’ll keep this page to share socially responsible activities and social justice initiatives. George is already consulting a small business and helping a friend with theirs, but Stephanie is going to take a hiatus after 13 years of Rising-n-Dining. We are open to suggestions and opportunities, whether they pay off or allow us to give back to the Rise community we love so much. Stay strong, stay true, do no harm and be you. We love you and more than Sad, we are Happy to have had the joy of creating a place that has welcomed everyone and to get to know so many of you. Good luck ! You can always reach us at [email protected]

Earlier this week, Atlanta-based ice cream company Queen of Cream closed its Poncey-Highland store after a year in Plaza on Ponce, citing “the devastating effects of Covid-19” on the retail side of the company. October also saw the closure of Italian restaurant Donetto in western Atlanta, Ammazza pizza in Decatur, Farm Burger in Peachtree Corners, and happy hour hotspot Tavern at Phipps in Buckhead.

Restaurateur Robert “Bozz” Baucum remains faithful to the concept of mom-and-pop boutiques.

In 2011, Marilynn’s Place opened in Shreveport, which Baucum named after his mother.

This week, he officially opened the doors of a new restaurant named in honor of his father, Ralph.

Ralph’s Place, located at 1173 Louisiana Ave. in Shreveport, offers American cuisine, with some Louisiana classics embellished. The focus is on Baucum’s father’s favorite meal.

“He loved breakfast. Cookies and gravy and bacon and eggs, ”Baucum said.

Ralph's Place serves hearty breakfast donuts with scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese and a side of hash browns.

The place to be

Ralph’s Place is in the Highland neighborhood on the outskirts of downtown Shreveport.

The one-room open-plan dining room receives much of its natural lighting due to the rebirth and discovery of transom fixtures that are around 80 years old, Baucum said.

The comfortable dining area accommodates two- and four-tray tables with additional seating available outside.

Ralph's Place Dining Room. The official restaurant opened in January 2020 at 1173 Louisiana Ave. at Shreveport.

A large raised treehouse-style patio runs along the side of the building. The roof cover, mosquito nets and blinds provide protection from the sun and ceiling fans will make it a cool place to relax in the warmer months.

Rows of hanging dim lights set the mood for private after-hours events.

Soon, picnic tables and chairs will be added to the large backyard. It will be the perfect place for crayfish and shrimp porridge, Baucum said.

Chocolate Cream Pie: This is a staple at JR’s Cafe in Saginaw.

Saginaw is a town now, but JR Cafe still feels like somewhere in a small town.

The town’s 30-year-old cafe recently reopened under new owners with a larger menu and the same bargain prices.

Plated lunches cost $ 7.99. Breakfasts are cheaper.

The most expensive item on the menu is a $ 14.99 T-bone with sides.

JR is now part of the Moe’s coffee empire, property of Haddad family with Cafe Benbrook in Benbrook, by Moe in River Oaks and Moe’s Country Kitchen in Azle.

Food is a standard coffee dish for lunch. Don’t expect gourmet cuisine, or prices.

Breakfast is the most reliable order – the cookies are top notch – and it is served at any time of the day.

The hand-breaded onion rings at the four restaurants are some of the best in town.

JR’s also now serves Moe’s popular chocolate creme, coconut creme or German chocolate creme pies.

With more expensive restaurant chains popping up in Saginaw, it’s good to see a place where the family can still have turkey and salad dressing on Sundays for $ 7.99 each. Children or seniors eat less.

JR’s Cafe is now open daily for breakfast and lunch. It is in a 70 year old building that was constructed at 300 S. Saginaw Blvd. when it was still the main north-south highway through North America; 817-232-8294.

The other restaurants are open all day six days a week and for breakfast and lunch on Sundays: Benbrook Cafe, 4902 US 377 South, 817-244-1372; Moe’s Cafe, 4705 River Oaks Blvd., 817-378-9262; and Moe’s Country Kitchen, 316 W. Main St., Azle, 817-444-1400.
