US student earns $ 1,400 tip for working at seafood restaurant

Forget about a 10, 15, or 20 percent tip – a waiter at a Connecticut restaurant is always in disbelief after receiving a 200 percent tip from a customer.

Michelle Rodrigues works at the RHK Seafood Boil and bar in South Norwalk.

During lunch on Tuesday, she said she was waiting at a fun family table of 10.

When they paid their US $ 500 (A $ 697) bill, she was shocked when she looked at the tip and saw the wild amount: US $ 1,000 (A $ 1,382).

She immediately thought that couldn’t be right.

“I went to clean the table and saw the check and I thought, no, there is a way,” Rodrigues told NBC New York.

“I ran after (the client) because I was shocked and I was like, maybe he made a mistake.

“I went after him and said ‘Sir, I think you did it wrong.’

“He looked at the bill and said, ‘No, enjoy your life.’

“And he left, I was so shocked and paralyzed.”

Rodrigues is an undergraduate student studying Biomedical Sciences online at a school in Brazil.

She said she planned to use the generous tip to pay for four months of her tuition.

“It’s amazing. I just moved to Norwalk 8 months ago and I could never have imagined something like this happening to me,” she said.

“I’m so grateful and so relieved that I don’t have to worry about how I’m going to pay my tuition.

In a Facebook post, the restaurant said the generous dumpster was visiting from Los Angeles.

“He is in town to visit his family and we are delighted that he and his family enjoyed having lunch with us,” the restaurant said.
